UC alumna, donor appointed new trustee – The Cincinnati Enquirer

Evanston’s Margaret “Peg” Valentine, a University of Cincinnati alumna and donor, will fill the spot on the UC Board of Trustees vacated by Standard Textile CEO Gary Heiman.
Valentine studied foreign languages and education at UC and graduated in 1971. She serves on the board of the UC Foundation and the UC Economics Center, along with the commission planning UC’s 2019 bicentennial celebration.
Her husband, Mike, also a UC alumnus, co-invented in the 1970s the Escort radar detector, which warned drivers of police radar in the area. The couple now runs Valentine Research, which continues to develop radar location systems.
The Valentines are major donors to UC, including to the Economics Center. They also donate heavily to the Ohio Republican Party and its candidates, including Gov. John Kasich, who appointed Valentine.
Heiman’s term expired in January 2013, but he stayed on the board one more year, completing the term of Margaret Buchanan, Enquirer president and publisher. She resigned in 2012 from the board.
